La graisse lubrifiante se compose de trois éléments principaux : Le liquide de lubrification, les additifs et l’épaississant.
L’épaississant distingue la graisse des lubrifiants liquides. Ce composant confère à la graisse sa consistance, ce qui la rend plus semi-solide que liquide et la rend adaptée à la lubrification des roulements, des engrenages et de nombreux autres composants triples.
Lorsque l’utilisation d’huile n’est pas pratique ou appropriée, on utilise de la graisse. Le choix du lubrifiant pour une application donnée est déterminé par l’adéquation entre la conception de la machine et les conditions de fonctionnement.
